About Us

The ThamesPilot Project

Libraries and museums along the length of the River Thames formed the ThamesPilot partnership to make images and documents from their collections freely available to the public. We have created a web site and information store, of over 5,300 items for communities along the River Thames. You can search for information on specific subjects or locations and select images of items of personal interest.

The Stories Behind the Pictures

The themes tell stories of the River Thames. Each theme shows images and tells the stories behind the picture. More pictures and stories will be added as resources become available. You will be able to find information from the themes which are listed on the Home page as well as individual objects and pictures in our records.

ThamesPilot worked in partnership with the Sense of Place South East consortium to bring you this site.

Partner organisations and individuals offered support and the use of material for the project. Contributions will be acknowledged as material is added to the site. People who use this site will also be able to contribute and help us with material and stories. We welcome feedback and any contributions you may have although we cannot promise to use everything we are offered. Contact details are below.

The project team

The initial project team was based at the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead from 2002 until 2004, capturing images for the website using digital cameras, flat bed scanners and a large specialist overhead scanner.

River Thames Heritage

We aim to improve access to cultural heritage content about the River Thames and the areas along its banks.
If you or your organisation wish to assist us, please contact us by email.

Funding

This project was funded through the New Opportunities Fund's UK-wide digitisation programme and contributions from the partners.
