Welcome to the River in Art theme of Thamespilot.

Many of England's most famous writers, poets, painters and musicians built their homes on the banks or the Thames, and every section of the river seems to have been photographed, painted or written about over the centuries.

This invaluable record will allow future generations to understand the changing landscape, and the elements that we wish to preserve. We will explore this historical treasure trove using artwork, photographs and documents made available by archives and libraries along its route.

We will break the theme into a number of sections, and will add to it as items become available. You will be able to click on the theme sections listed in the left hand panel to select an area of interest.
