Let's take a trip down the historic River Thames using photographs, artwork and documents made available by archives and libraries along its route.

Our trip begins in the gentle countryside of the Cotswold Hills, passing through the vibrant heart of the city of London, and ending in the busy waterborne traffic of the North Sea.

The theme is broken into a number of sections which can be selected from the left hand panel. We will add to them as documents and images become available. The non-tidal river consists of Upper, Middle and Lower Thames, ending at Teddington. Three further sections, Tidal, London and Estuary, take us on from Richmond to Southend.
