Greenwich
The birthplace of both Queen Mary I and Queen Elizabeth I the palace was at its finest during the Tudor period. It was partially rebuilt during the Stewart period in the early 1600's, but in 1685, under William and Mary, it was rebuilt into the magnificent Greenwich Naval Hospital. Under Queen Victoria it became the Royal Naval College and begins the 21st century as the Maritime Campus of the University of Greenwich.

Imagine the scene at Greenwich, when in 1533, fifty barges of the companies of the City of London, moored at Greenwich Palace, to escort Anne Boleyn to her coronation. Each was decorated with banners and flowers and transported trumpeteers, minstrels or 'virgins singing sweetly.' The procession made its way upstream to the Tower of London where she was received by the Lord Chamberlain with the officers of arms.
