Southend
No journey along the river which finishes in the North Sea would be complete without a 'kiss me quick' hat and a bag of chips at the end of the pier. 40 miles to the east of London, at the mouth of the Thames estuary, we finally arrive at one of the best-known resorts in the country, Southend. This final image comes from a magic lantern slide collection, which was presented to Edwardian audiences, who followed this same route.
