Environment Agency
Management of the non-tidal river changed hands several times at the end of the 20th century.
In 1973, the Thames Water Authority took control, but handed it over to the National Rivers Authority in 1989, with the supply of clean water, and treatment of sewage passing to Thames Water Plc.
In 1996, the National Rivers Authority became part of the Environment Agency, which now manages everything from fishing licenses to pollution control.
