In 1209, the Norman's constructed a 19 arch stone bridge, eventually topped with houses, shops and a chapel, which with repairs was to last for the next 800 years.

In 1831, King William IV opened the strong modern 5 arched bridge which was used throughout the Victorian period, and survived the two world wars of the twentieth century. In 1973 it was sold, transported and reconstructed in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. London Bridge
